Sharjah, UAE, Jan 30, 2023, ZEXPRWIRE, University Hospital of Sharjah doctors succeeded in saving the life of an eighty-year-old patient by performing a rare and delicate artery surgery.

Where Dr. Sahir Arour, a consultant vascular surgeon at the University Hospital in Sharjah, said: “The emergency department at the University Hospital in Sharjah received an eighty-year-old male patient who was suffering from urinary bleeding as a result of stones. Upon examination, it was found that the patient was experiencing severe pains in the abdominal region. The aortic pulse was obvious. The patient was transferred to the Diagnostic Radiology Department and examined by ultrasound as well as a CT scan without giving dye injections as the patient was having kidney failure which contraindicate this diagnostic injection,” noting that the medical treating team succeeded in determining the dimensions of a swelling in the wall of the artery as a result of weakness and calcification of its tissues. The dimensions ranged between 60 to 70 mm.

The patient’s condition is diagnosed as aortic aneurysm and considered complicated because he was having several health problems including; fourth-degree kidney failure, the heart was working with half of its efficacy, He was suffering from high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, dyslipidaemia, iron deficiency anemia, umbilical hernia, and benign prostatic hyperplasia.

Dr. Saher explained that the hospital administration team communicated with the patient’s family and informed them about his health condition and offered the available solutions for his treatment. They agreed with the doctors’ opinion to perform an urgent surgery in the hospital due to the seriousness of his condition, and also to avoid open surgeries because his general condition was very critical.

The team performed a minimally invasive surgery with a simple incision without a large cut or severe abdominal bleeding, the patient had post-surgical short recovery period and returned home in good health after the successful surgery.

In the same context, Professor Dr. Hakam Yassin, Medical Director of the University Hospital Sharjah, and Consultant Paediatrician and Neonatologist, said: “We have medical competencies working in different specialties and are able to employ their competencies within the framework of one team, which increases the efficiency of diagnosis and the effectiveness of treatments provided. They are able to take the challenges “God willing” to save patients’ lives by performing various surgeries, which may be complex. I thank the team of doctors and surgeons who contributed to the accurate and rapid diagnosis and treatment, and I always support them aiming to achieve distinguished medical service for the Emirate of Sharjah in particular, and the UAE and the Gulf region in general.”
