A tigress aged around three years was killed in a road accident in Bhandara district of Maharashtra on Tuesday evening, an official said.
The incident occurred in Lakhni town.
The tigress was killed after being hit by an unidentified vehicle on National Highway 53, the forest department official said.
The post-mortem will throw light on the exact cause of the feline’s death, he said.
Rescued tiger relocated from Tamil Nadu’s Gudalur forest to Vandalur Zoo
Elsewhere in the country earlier this September, a 10-year-old male tiger was rescued from Tamil Nadu’s Gudalur forest division has been safely relocated to the Arignar Anna Zoological Park familiarly known as Vandalur Zoo in Chennai, Tamil Nadu Forest department said on Saturday.
The tiger was rescued following concerns of human-tiger conflict.
The wild cat has safely been brought to the Rescue and Rehabilitation Centre at the Zoo for continued care, rehabilitation and monitoring.
Tiger Nandu euthanised at Thrissur zoo
For Nandu, a male tiger rescued from the Wayanad forests and brought to the Thrissur Zoological Park at Puthur, the fight for life ended on Thursday, September 10, after cancer in his mouth left him in severe pain and unable to eat.
Zoo officials said Nandu was under treatment and the care of veterinary experts at the zoo, but his condition continued to worsen.
The disease became so severe that the tiger could no longer eat, leaving little hope of recovery, they said.
Taking into account his severe pain and the assessment of veterinary experts that his condition was unlikely to improve, Nandu was euthanised on the orders of the Chief Wildlife Warden.

On Friday morning, locals spotted the carcass of a tiger lying near a stream adjacent to Lower Prospect Estate and immediately alerted the authorities.
Forest officials rushed to the spot and are currently investigating the exact cause of death.
